The yeoman who beams down to Deneva with them gets an equipment
belt- no phaser, though, she only gets to hang a communicator on
it. The odd point is that Uhura seems to be wearing one, too,
earlier in the show when they are still coming into the system.
Was she planning on beaming down using the "How often do I get
shore leave?" line?

Huh. You're right, yeah. And it's not the armband she was
wearing last week for 'City On The Edge Of Forever'. She seems to
wear it through the episode, per Trekcore:

Since Yeoman Not Speaking In This Episode is wearing the same
belt as they beam down to Planet SUNY/Albany Campus

I would *think* the real-world explanation might be that the costume guy
that week or the director supposed the belt was part of the women's duty
uniform, except the fact Yeoman Whoever doesn't wear it in that bridge
scene shows they can't have figured that.

Actually, Yeoman Cute-Ponytail (listed as Zahra in script, though not
mentioned by name) has four speaking lines in this episode (plus
screaming).

...Actually, she's Maurishka Taliaferro, who was an exotic fashion
model of her day. Apparently she was a big Trek fan and her agent got
her the one-shot gig because despite her looks she wasn't an actress.
We call that "Maren Jensen's Syndrome" these days.
